My father who is now sadly deceased used to tell me he went in search of a cousin in Bute during the war years when on leave from the Army and found her married with the surname Thorburn. The family had a wet fish shop and their were other members of the family but he could not remember their names. His name was Doug Crawley. His sister Margaret is still alive and I said I would try and find any reletives who may still be on the Isle. I believe I found Willie Thorburn in a fish shop in the 1951 business directory and wondered if any of the family look at this guest book.

Jean Catherine Bush Findlay
My parents Margaret Glachan and Patrick James Bush met in Rothesay. My Mother was from Glasgow and went 'doon the watter' tae Rothesay every year. My Father was from Hampshire but was stationed in Rothesay with the Royal Navy. They met in the Ballroom which overlooks Rothesay Bay and several months later they were married. More than fifty years later we returned to Rothesay on the Waverley with their ashes and scattered them across Rothesay Bay. A request they had made and the ending to a beautiful love story. Does anyone have any information about the ballroom and the presence of the navy on the island?

I have just stumbled upon my father's article about the Gay Queen. Delighted to read it and be reminded of the many holidays we spent with him on the McMillan's farm at Cranslagvourity, Ettrick Bay.
